I believe that most photographers produce work based on some kind of influence in their lives. Since I can remember I have always been fascinated by the Vintage art and also by the Victorian era. There is something that attracts me to it that draws me in. I love the romantic, out of this world feel which I try to express in some of my photographs, sometimes unconsciously. The resulted images are hardly the true interpretations of the reality but in my opinion this is the beauty of the art. I purposely aim to produce a result that I see in my own mind rather than what I see in the real life.

I often wondered why I love the vintage feel so much and I realized that it must go back to my childhood. My grandfather was a brilliant photographer capturing the life around him in black and white images. Later in his life, he moved on to colour photography and since then he never photographed in black and white again. He loved the colour so much. However, I have some beautiful memories of watching him hand-colouring his black and white images. The results were beautiful and dreamy and I believe that this is the kind of style that I adopted from my inspirational grandfather. Such was his influence on me.

The image on the left is my version of the Nigella Sativa flower. Nigella is a strangely beautiful flower. The name comes from the Latin word 'niger' referring to its black seeds. Its common name is ‘Love-in-a-mist’, very appropriate in my opinion. It refers to the fine hair-like bracts that encircle the flower. The flower’s original colour is blue but I decided to give the flower a romantic vintage makeover to emphasize its soft mysterious beauty.
